Estate
Located just 20 minutes from Saint-Emilion, this family estate has been passed down through five generations. Today, Jean-Louis Champagne and his children continue the tradition, combining family heritage with a modern and sustainable approach to viticulture. Château Riquet is also owned and managed by Jean-Louis Champagne, alongside Château Haut Lamothe. The vineyard dedicated to Château Riquet covers 12 hectares within the family estate, which extends over 40 hectares in the commune of Petit Palais. The parcels are more scattered, with several plots located along the “Ruisseau du Cabossinâ€, bringing natural freshness and balance to the vines. As with Château Haut Lamothe, the vineyards are surrounded by small groves and ponds, creating a preserved environment that enhances biodiversity and contributes to the elegance and freshness of the wines.
Tasting notes
This wine offers a profile close to Lalande-de-Pomerol, reflecting the estate’s proximity to the appellation, similar soils and comparable blend. It shows a deep ruby color with purple highlights. The nose is fresh and expressive, with aromas of red and black fruits. On the palate, the attack is vibrant and fruit-driven, with a slightly firmer structure and well-integrated tannins, leading to a balanced and elegant finish.
Vineyard
Chateau Riquet follows the same sustainable and quality-driven approach as Château Haut Lamothe. High planting density encourages deep root systems and enhances terroir expression, resulting in concentrated fruit, complexity and refined tannins. Partial grass cover is used depending on vine vigor to naturally regulate growth, improve soil structure and promote biodiversity, preserving freshness, balance and aromatic precision.
Winemaking
Alcoholic fermentation with temperature control, selected yeasts and regular pump-overs.
