Tasting notes
Rich garnet color draws the eye, while the aromas of black currant, cranberry and bittersweet chocolate entice the nose. Hints of violet along with black fruit and well-integrated oak support the mid-palate. Bright flavors and the firm tannins complete the elegant wine.
Vinification
Manually harvested and picked at optimum ripeness. Hand sorted in the vineyard. De-stemmed and crushed into a stainless-steel fermentation tank. Inoculated with Bordeaux and Red yeast, the wine was pumped over twice daily. Near the end of fermentation, the wine was inoculated with malolactic bacteria. The wine was pressed when dry in the fermenter, after which is was racked off the gross lees and moved to barrels. Aged 18 months in Bordeaux style French and Hungarian oak barrels. Racked quarterly to aid the natural clarification. The final blend was assembled and bottled May.
Estate
Established in 1981, White Oak Winery, a small boutique winery, is dedicated to producing small quantities of distinguished lots. These are carefully crafted wines that reflect he uniqueness of the vineyards and climates of the northern California's Sonoma and Napa counties.
Located in the heart of the Alexander Valley, they farm 750 acres of estate vineyards. Roughly 10% of this fruit is used in White Oak wines with the balance being sold to other well-known wineries. Their Russian River Valley vineyards produce Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, while the Napa Valley vineyards produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
