Description

Bussia is not only the best know vineyard of Monforte d’Alba but also one of the true superstars of the entire appellation, capable of stimulating the desires of wine lovers all over the world. The classic distinction of the vineyard has been Bussia Sottana (sotto means lower/under) and Bussia Soprana (sopra means higher/above). Ceretto has a small parcel with south exposition in the heart of the vineyard Bussia Soprana. The average age of the vines is around 25 years. The vineyard is certified organic but managed biodynamically. The year 2015 is the first vintage it was produced under the Ceretto name.

Tasting Notes

The wine shows typicity of the terroir: powerful and smooth, with a long finish and splendid acidity. Reflects the micro-climate and terroir, which reminds us of the big classic wines produced from this vineyard. At first earthy, wet forest floor, bitter orange and blue flowers. A noble wine, with full body and depth. Charming when its young because of the aromatics, but thanks to the refined tannic profile the wine has a long ageing potential.

Vinification

Spontaneous cap-fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by 10-15 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation is completed in wood barrels immediately following the harvest, after which the wine is aged for around 30 months. (1 year in 300 liter barrels and 2 years in big botti ca 50hl, ca 10% new oak). Following a year in bottle.

Estate

Among the infinite rows of vines that run across the undulating hills of Piedmont are the four wineries of Ceretto, a wine and spirits company in its third generation. Founded by Riccardo Ceretto in 1937, the highly respected firm is now run by his sons, Bruno and Marcello (dubbed the “Barolo Brothers”) who in the 1960s began raising Ceretto’s profile and expanding its holdings. Now their sons and daughters are at the helm of the Langhe DOC company, which holds a total of 120 hectares of land that are the birthplace of an array of elegant still wines, sparkling wines, dessert wines, and spirits.
