Estate

The origin of Ascott Brandy is to be found in the north of England, in the Lake District. Edward Ascott was a hotel-keeper there. He was also a great lover of France and French wines, a passion which he passed on to his son, William, who went to study wine-making in France in 1887. William discovered that beyond wines there were brandies, an eau-de-vie which he found both delicious on the palate and aromatic to the nose. After his wedding to a local French lady, William decided to start his own Brandy house in 1891. Thanks to his studies in wine-making, and with the help of his many French friends, he soon produced brandies of a quality fit for the international markets.

Wine Making

From the beginning, and to this day, Ascott Brandy has been distilled from exceptional wines. The wines are distilled after the harvest at the end of September and the subsequent fermentation of the grape juice. During distillation, the wines are heated to evaporation point and the collected vapours, when sufficiently light, will ventually be cooled down to become brandy. Oak ageing will allow them to reach their full potential in terms of smoothness and maturity.
