Wine
Hermitage Ex-Voto represents the fulfillment of a longtime dream of Guigal’s to own his own vineyards on the hill of Hermitage. Through the purchase of the de Vallouit and J. L. Grippat domaines in 2000, Guigal acquired four vineyard parcels on this legendary site. The 2001 vintage was the
first release of this estate-bottled Hermitage red and white.
Estate
The firm of E. Guigal, located in Ampuis, was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal. Since 1961 his son Marcel has led the estate, and his unparalleled work ethic and dedication to quality have brought attention to Cote-Rotie and other appellations throughout the Rhone that were in danger of being
lost, and lifted the Guigal wines to the pinnacle of the wine world. Today, Marcel's son Philippe serves as Director and Oenologist, continuing the tradition of leadership in the Rhone Valley and uncompromising excellence.
Tasting notes
White flowers, haythorne, and acacia honhey predominate on the nose. Aromatic and very pwoerful. Very expressive and flesh fruit on the palate.
Vineyard
The white comes from two parcels, les Murets (90%) and L'Hermite (10%). A blend of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne. These cuvées will be produced only
in exceptional vintages. These two wines represent the pinnacle of the appellation, with exceptional concentration and great potential longevity.
Vinification
The wine spends approximately 18 months in new oak casks and is bottled without fining or filtration. The average age of the vines are 40 to 90 years old. The wine had regular pumpovers in thermregulated stainless steel tanks. Aged exclusively in new oak barrels for 30 months and 100% malolactic
fermentation was carried out and 4 weeks maceration.
