Technical Info
Tasting notes
Explosive aromas of quince, white flowers such as hawthorn blossom and acacia, and delicate oak are followed by rich, persistently fresh flavors of spice, apples, and minerals, framed by Guigal's trademark silkiness. The wine is delicious to drink young, and will hold well for 3-5 years from the vintage.
Wine
Guigal first produced Crozes-Hermitage Blanc in the 2000 vintage after their purchase of select parcels. Similar in character to Hermitage Blanc but without its intense concentration and extraction, Crozes Blanc has an original style and freshness which makes it perhaps the best value of Guigal's Northern Rhône whites. Guigal's Crozes Blanc is not typical for the appellation, and
in fact exceptional, offering a purity and freshness rarely found in whites from this region.
Estate
The firm of E. Guigal, located in Ampuis, was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal. Since 1961 his son Marcel has led the estate, and his unparalleled work ethic and dedication to quality have brought attention to Cote-Rotie and other appellations throughout the Rhone that were in danger of being lost, and lifted the Guigal wines to the pinnacle of the wine world. Today, Marcel’s son Philippe serves as Director and Oenologist, continuing the tradition of leadership in the Rhone Valley and
uncompromising excellence.
Vineyard
Vineyards are from their estate holdings, with vines averaging 25 years of age and planted on soils of clay silt and sand and gravel. Yields are low at 2.1 tons per acre.
Vinification
The 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne wine was aged for 12 months, in stainless steel and a part in second use oak sur lie.
