Chanson - Macon La Roche Vineuse 2013
Tasting notes
The wine is pale gold in color, with notes of lime blossom mixed with very fresh aromas of citrus fruit. Well-balanced with a lot of finesse, it has a long and refreshing finish marked by fruit and citrus notes.
Wine
Roche Vineuse is a small terroir located in the villages of la Roche Vineuse, Hurigny and Chevagny-les-Chevrieres, in the vicinity of the famous cliffs of Solutré and Vergisson in the Mâcon.
Estate
One of the great historic producers of France, founded in 1750 and purchased by the Champagne Bollinger family in
1999, Chanson today is one of only six producers in Burgundy still remaining from the 18th century and earlier. Chanson has been meticulously managed since 1999 to become one of Burgundy’s top estates. Vinification
Chanson vinifies all their wines 100% whole cluster. They believe the complexity and structure of the wines is greatly enhanced, and the vinification process is improved. The major condition is that grapes must be perfect in terms of ripeness and condition. You can count on one hand the estates dedicated to whole cluster vinification in this manner. Then Champagne-style fractional pressing is done: very precise pressings for the purest juice, with lots vinified separately in small tanks. The wine is for the most part left alone, as the philosophy is one
of “infusion rather than construction”. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel on the fine lees with no batonnage.
Vintage
After a long winter and a gloomy spring, the summer was warm and sunny but with intervals of violent hail storms. The harvest took place in the last days of September under a bright sunshine. The difficult weather conditions at the beginning of the year and the hail storms have considerably impacted the yields in most of the wine regions but quality is there.
