Description
"Grancey" was the name of the last owners of the chateau situated on the road of Corton, before the Latour family bought it in 1891. This wine, produced by Maison Louis Latour, is unique and exclusive. It is a blend of four areas of Domaine Latour Corton Grand Cru: Bressandes, Perrières, Grèves and Clos du Roi, the proportions of which vary depending on the vintage. The average age of the vines is over 40 years. After aging individually, only the best barrels are assembled to create the Château Corton Grancey. It is a wine that is produced only if the grapes are of a perfect maturity, vintages judged inferior are systematically declassified.
Estate
The Latour family founded the ‘Maison de négoce’, an important shipping company, in 1797, and it is still based at 18 Rue des Tonneliers in Beaune to this day. The company is unique in Burgundy in that it is still family-owned and family-run, having been passed down from father to son for ten generations over 200 years. Maison Louis Latour ships its wines to over 180 countries worldwide. These world-class Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs can be found on the most famous dining tables around the globe.
Tasting notes
The Chateau Grancey shows fresh fruit aromas such as strawberry blend wonderfully with floral and tobacco notes. The taste is full and round with aromas of griotte cherry and liquorice. A powerful wine with silky tannins, superb aromatic depth and a good, long aftertaste on the palate.
Food Pairing: Roasted beef, game, duck, chicken & mature cheeses.
