Enticing dark chocolate and spearmint on the nose lead to nicely layered, creamy, fine-grained tannins wrapped around deep blue and black fruit flavors. Cocoa, dried blueberries and creme de cassis are delicious and lingering. Drink now or hold.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Hilary Goldschmidt emerges from a site in Oakville. It offers up copious dark-fleshed fruit, along with lavish touches of mocha, new leather, cedar and blood orange. Broad, chocolatey tannins frame the finish. There's not much subtlety here, but that does not appear to be the goal. The 2023 offers tons of intensity and pure power at a price I can't remember seeing for an Oakville Cabernet in many years.
