The 2022 Barolo Bussia comes across as light-bodied and diluted. Leather, spice, menthol, dried herbs and dark-fleshed fruit open with a bit of coaxing, but there's only modest depth and complexity to be found.

The Ceretto 2022 Barolo Bussia, made with certified organic fruit from a tiny 0.73-hectare parcel in the heart of Bussia Soprana, has a plump personality with black cherry, iron, tar and licorice. The fruit is framed by dense tannins and a powerful 15% alcohol content. Aged for one year in 300-liter French oak barrels followed by two years in larger French oak casks and a final year in bottle, the wine takes a broad, muscular approach with dark aromas that converge on the bouquet all at once. A mild note of bitterness on the palate feels linked to the concentration of this bold Barolo, which will need time to unwind.
