James Suckling 97pt

This is really floral on the nose, with blueberries, blackberries and touches of asphalt and cedar. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with blue fruit flavors, sophisticated polished tannins and a clean, linear finish. Already great, but it should evolve nicely over the next couple of years.

Vinous Media 96pt

The 2021 Barolo Bricco Rocche captures all the best the vintage had to offer. Powerful and yet sensual, with superb balance, the Bricco Rocche is not the showiest wine in the range, but it does offer terrific persistence and dynamic energy. Beams of tannin and clean mineral undertones extend the finish. The 2021 is compelling in every way.

Wine Advocate 98pt

This is the grande dame in the Ceretto portfolio. The organic 2021 Barolo Bricco Rocche draws its fruit from one of my favorite slopes in Castiglione Falletto that always delivers extreme sharpness and focus. Indeed, this is one of the smallest MGAs in the appellation (maybe the smallest?), and the Ceretto family has the monopoly. Bricco Rocche sits at 350 to 370 meters in elevation with southeastern and southwestern exposures and a mix of sand, silt and clay soils. The wine opens gracefully to reveal redcurrant, blue flower and crushed stone over a very firm, mid-weight finish fueled by long, silky tannins. A pop of bright acidity seals the deal.

Wine Spectator 95pt

Pretty cherry and raspberry fruit leads off, with rose hip, menthol and iron accents filling the spaces. Tightens up on the finish yet remains vibrant and long, with terrific length and a red fruit sequel. Classy and complex.

Estate

Ceretto is a family estate based in Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, founded in the 1930s by Riccardo Ceretto. In the 1960s and 1970s his sons Bruno and Marcello acquired some of the finest crus of the area, including Bricco Rocche, Brunate and Prapo in Barolo and Asili and Bernadot in Barbaresco. Now led by the third generation of the family, Ceretto farms its vineyards organically and crafts wines that express the character of each site.

Description

Bricco Rocche, in Castiglione Falletto, is the smallest MGA (official named vineyard area) in Barolo, and it has been solely owned by the Ceretto family since the mid-1970s. The 1.46-hectare plot sits at the very center of the appellation, and its wines seem to gather the main characteristics of the whole Barolo terroir, as if absorbed from the surrounding landscape. Founder Marcello Ceretto saw it as the summation, in quality, of all the great Barolos, and that is where its greatness lies.
