James Suckling 95pt

Aromas of earth, strawberries, watermelon and orange peel, with restrained touches of licorice, cherrystones and dried flowers such as roses and violets. Medium-bodied yet weighty and concentrated, with velvety tannins and lifted acidity. More elegant than powerful, it needs time for better integration of its grainy finish.

Vinous Media 94pt

The 2022 Barbaresco Asili is another impressive wine from Ceretto in this very challenging year. All of the inner perfume and nuance of Asili comes through in the glass. Sweet red fruit, kirsch, mint and sweet spice build over time. Asili is always Asili. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Wine Advocate 95pt

The Ceretto 2022 Barbaresco Asili has a little more power and structure at the back compared to the Gallina and Bernadot; however, it shows a similar directness and transparency that gives it a sharp and focused personality. You get more textural heft here as well, with very fine, glossy tannins. Fruit comes from a 1.2-hectare site at 200 and 290 meters in elevation. This vineyard has been singled out for excellence since the 1970s.

Wine Spectator 93pt

Rich, dense and defined by bracing acidity, this red leaves a crisp, crunchy expression. Strawberry and cherry fruit is accented by floral, mineral and spice elements. Balanced and persistent in its linear profile, with mouthcoating tannins lining the chalky finish.

Estate

Ceretto is a family estate based in Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, founded in the 1930s by Riccardo Ceretto. In the 1960s and 1970s his sons Bruno and Marcello acquired some of the finest crus of the area, including Bricco Rocche, Brunate and Prapo in Barolo and Asili and Bernadot in Barbaresco. Now led by the third generation of the family, Ceretto farms its vineyards organically and crafts wines that express the character of each site.

Description

Asili is the flagship cru of the Barbaresco municipality and a site of special meaning for the Ceretto family: in the early 1970s it was the first piece of land they set out to develop. Ceretto's 1.15-hectare plot sits at the top of the hill, with several exposures and naturally low yields. The wine is closely tied to its terroir yet has a profile all its own, interpreting the rules of the appellation rather than breaking them. It is the essence of aromatic lightness and restraint, with the tannins and acidity behind its legendary aging potential.
