Product Ratings
James Suckling 95pt

Gorgeous ripe fruit character, with loads of blueberries, blackberries and flowers. Full body, with velvety tannins and a fruity, fresh, grapefruit aftertaste. Really beautiful. Best ever from here.

by James Suckling, 2012
Wine Advocate 91+pt

Readers looking for the more ethereal, elegant side of Bordeaux need search no further than Cantemerle, one of the estates in the very southern end of the Medoc. Dense ruby/purple (nearly opaque), this wine offers up notes of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, raspberries and black cherries.

by Wine Advocate, 2011
Wine Enthusiast 92pt

Very structured wine, with black currant fruit and dense acidity. The tannins are dark, firm, solid. This is a fine wine from Cantemerle, reveling in the richness of the vintage.

by Wine Enthusiast, 2012
Wine Spectator 91pt

This broad, fleshy style delivers toasty spice and tobacco notes up front, followed by dark cocoa, crushed plum and mulled blackberry fruit flavors. This really stretches out nicely in the glass, with alluring dark fruit and a velvety feel.

Tasting notes

Those who prefer a young wine can begin to appreciate this very fine bottle in 2012 if it is transferred to a carafe three hours before serving; their reward will be the development of spicy, black fruit aromas typical of this growth. The wine’s complexity is satisfyingly paradoxical: concentration and elegance, liveliness and softness. Just the color alone shows the deep, stylish garnet color typical of a great wine, and this impression is confirmed by its aromatic complexity. Beautifully long with a fresh finish. For those who prefer more mature wines, Cantemerle 2009 can continue cellar aging for five, ten, or even fifteen years more; this will bring out its pedigree, with boldly expressive yet finely delicate aromas perfectly representative of its vintage and its terroir. But will these wine lovers be able to resist opening the bottle before then?
