James Suckling 95pt

A blend of malbec and cabernet franc with plenty of freshness that gives orange peel and orange blossom aromas. Medium-bodied, fresh and vivid with crunchiness, length and brightness. The tannins are finely polished at the finish. They use some ceramic and concrete vessels to finish the wine. You can drink with joy now but it will improve with age. <br> Top 100 Wines of Argentina 2024

Vinous Media 95pt

Sourced from Campo de los Andes in the Uco Valley, the 2021 Gran Corte was aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. This garnet-hued wine presents ripe fruit aromas with soft oak notes, cedar and a hint of roasted character alongside marmalade nuances. Broad and juicy on the palate, it features fine tannins and a delicate fruit expression on the finish. A classic Bordelais interpretation of the Uco Valley's terroir, it showcases clever extraction and balanced, nuanced flavor.

Description

Bodega Flechas de los Andes was created thanks to a partnership between Baron Benjamin de Rothschild and Laurent Dassault, who sought to make wine on a great terroir at the foot of the Andes. The name Flechas de los Andes refers to the 5 arrows symbolizing the Rothschild family. Planted in 1999, the vineyard benefits from a dry climate tempered by the tall Andes Mountains (1,100m). Malbec is the main grape variety on this unique terroir. The partnership between two families, as well as their shared aim of producing an excellent Argentinian wine, led to the creation of Gran Corte.

Harvest

The 2021 season in Vista Flores, in the heart of the Uco Valley, began with a cool spring marked by localized frosts in early October, reducing yields in certain parcels. Thanks to the altitude and the natural air circulation typical of Andean terroirs, the vines nevertheless progressed through the season in generally healthy conditions, with balanced and moderate vegetative growth.

Summer unfolded under cooler-than-average temperatures, accompanied by regular rainfall and significant day–night temperature variations. This dynamic slowed ripening, allowing for gradual aromatic development while preserving remarkable natural acidity — a hallmark of high-altitude vineyards.

Harvest, carried out later than in recent years between late March and mid-April depending on the sector, delivered healthy, well-balanced and concentrated grapes. Despite early-season challenges, the 2021 vintage in Vista Flores reveals precise, elegant wines defined by purity of fruit, vibrant freshness and the distinctive tension of this Andean terroir.

Tasting notes

To the eye, the wine displays an intense color with deep violet hues, signaling concentration and vibrancy. The nose, expressive and precise, reveals the distinctive character of Argentine Malbec through aromas of violet and ripe plum, offering both depth and aromatic clarity.

On the palate, the wine unfolds with power and structure, driven by the natural intensity of Malbec.

Cabernet Franc brings elegance and subtlety to the blend, contributing very soft, finely textured tannins along with delicate hints of rose. The interplay between strength and refinement creates a harmonious balance, resulting in a wine of complexity, structure and poise — the hallmark of a truly great expression.
