Vintage
The Alexander Valley experienced another ideal vintage in 2013. The length of the growing season provided moderate temperatures for the grapes to
ripen at the optimal speed. The result is another stellar vintage defined by clean, outstanding fruit characteristics with balanced and bright acidity, tannins and sugar levels.
Cooperage
The 2013 was aged 22 months in 100% French oak. We chose barrels from several coopers including Darnajou, Taransaud, Demptos, Saury, and Bel
Air. 70% of the barrels were new, and coopered using a combination of Medium Plus, Medium Long, and Heavy toast levels to provide better integration and balance.
Estate
Consistent with Lancaster Estate's commitment to making wines of authenticity and place, all of our wines are estate grown, produced and bottled.
Native yeasts are used for primary fermentation while secondary malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in barrel. To preserve the truest expression of our estate, the Lancaster Estate 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was gently fined and then bottled unfiltered.
Our thoughts
This 2013 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon displays the exceptional terroir of our 53 acres of hillside vineyards. This wine is multi-layered with notes of plum, black currant, and blackberry fruit. It is a balanced wine with a supple mouthfeel. An approachable wine in its youth, this Cabernet will only gain in complexity and will drink well for the next 15-20 years.
