Estate
Established in 1981, White Oak Winery, a small boutique winery, is dedicated to producing small quantities of distinguished lots. These are carefully crafted wines that reflect he uniqueness of the vineyards and climates of the northern California's Sonoma and Napa counties.
Located in the heart of the Alexander Valley, they farm 750 acres of estate vineyards. Roughly 10% of this fruit is used in White Oak wines with the balance being sold to other well-known wineries. Their Russian River Valley vineyards produce Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, while the Napa Valley vineyards produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
Tasting notes
This rich, full bodied Chardonnay exhibits notes of grilled peaches, tropical fruit with a slight note of brioche. Combined with the toasty oak aromas derived from the barrel fermentation, this wine is complex, balanced and delivers a lingering finish.
Vinification
This site contains alluvial river deposits that are comprised of well drained sandy soils over deep gravel beds. Harvested in small lots. The fruit is picked by hand at night and in the cool mornings of September and October from their vineyards along the Russian River. The grapes are brought to the winery and immediately pressed using a gentle bladder press. The freshly pressed Chardonnay juice is settled for 24-48 hours. It is then racked off the settlings, inoculated and put in French and Hungarian barrels to ferment. Primary and malolactic fermentations are conducted simultaneously. Barrel aged sur lie and stirred regularly for 9 months. Bottled in July and allowed to mature in bottle prior to release.
