Vintage
The 2013 vintage is full of deep and rich character. Although yields were lower than the generous 2012 crop, the harvest shares the same balanced
fl avor notes. The Green Valley in the Russian River Valley had a long ripening season, which helped develop complex fl avors within the fruit. Just a few days saw extremely hot temperatures and the season was marked by less rain than usual, allowing our winemaking team to select maturely fl avored grapes for the 2013 vintage.
Tasting notes
The cool climate where these grapes come from is just temperate enough to ripen Syrah, which yields a rounded palate of berry fruit and lots of spice, and is highlighted by bright acidity and silky tannins. This wine is enjoyable now but will age beautifully for fi ve to eight years. Pairs beautifully with a slow roasted peppered pork tenderloin or a lamb ragout with olives and peppers.
Terroir
The grapes in our Cool Climate Syrah explore the range of Goldridge soil and terroir at Dutton Ranch in the Green Valley of Russian River Valley
AVA. The Dutton family has been working the land in Sonoma Count since the 1880s and today they sustainably farm about 850 acres. We are
dedicated to crafting wines that beautifully express the personality of this Syrah.
Winemaking
Our 2013 Cool Climate Syrah comes 100% from Dutton Ranch – Cherry Ridge Vineyard, Clone 877. Destemmed to fermenter, cold soaked for 4 days
before yeast inoculation, and then pressed at dryness, settled and barreled down for 12 months in French oak.
