Harvest
This proved to be a fantastic harvest year. The cool summer gave way to September heat that quickly ripened the fruit to bright and well-defined Pinot Noir intensity. Marked by a third year of drought conditions, limited but prudent watering allowed for full development of the small crop.
Tasting notes
This particular Pinot Noir stands out as a sophisticated and elegant wine
with a silky, lingering fi nish. The wine exudes darker fruit characteristics
of Satsuma plums, like the trees that border the front of the winery, and
dark cherry highlights. Bacon and Sumatran coffee fl avors provide depth with hints of clove and nutmeg, creating a mosaic of sensations to savor.
Description
Bouchaine is the oldest continuously operating winery in Carneros, a region located on the southern tip of Napa Valley. Over the years, the Copelands continued to update the property, expanding the vineyards to 100 acres, and invested their time and passion into building a sustainable, family-owned estate. Bouchaine Vineyards lies on the Southern border of Napa Valley, adjacent to the Napa-Sonoma Marsh State Wildlife Area with over 100 bucolic acres surrounding the winery. This unique geographical location is the most renowned region in the Napa Valley for Pinot Noir. The Carneros fog, wind and cool temperatures help our grapes develop bright and crisp characteristics typical of the region.
Vinification
After being aged in American and French oak barrels that were new or a few seasons old, our 2009 Carneros Pinot Noir under went a complete malolactic fermentation enhancing the complexity and silky texture of the final blend.
