Technical Details

Description

This year two micro vineyards were used, one the Dr. Lies vineyard in the heart of St. Helena and one from the south side of Yountville, the Dillon ranch, where we source our Chardonnay from. The wine is 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were picked separately, a few days apart. They were fully crushed and destemmed and cold soaked in small separate lots for two days. Extraction was quicker than previous years with mass aeration for tannin formation, and after 17 days the individual tanks were drained separately, but pressed together. Malolactic took place in barrel and the wines were racked and stored individually in the cave. After a year and a half, the wines were tasted and blended together for a total of 18 barrels of the Spring Street Cabernet Sauvignon.

Estate

Established in 2011, TATE is known for single expression wines from independently owned, micro-vineyards across the valley floor and mountain sides of the Napa Valley. Founded by husband and wife team David & Suzanne Tate; they have grown to producing just over 1,000 cases annually of Chardonnay from Yountville, Merlot from Calistoga and single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon's from St. Helena, Mt. Veeder and Howell Mountain.

Tasting notes

The Spring Street Cabernet Sauvignon is fully purple in the core with light purple on the rim. Deep raspberry tart and pomegranate concentrate fill the glass. Underpinning elements of crushed violets and charred cedar are also apparent. The wine has a wonderful viscosity to the palate, where wonderful flavors of cola, black licorice and black cherries emerge. The tannins are present but not overbearing, while soft acidity eventually appears. This is a great representation of bring together two small family vineyards to make one great wine that should age nicely over the next 10-11 years.
