Tasting notes
The nose of our 2013 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is fruit forward and very deep and concentrated with blackberry, blackcurrant and hints of toasted characters. The body follows the aroma and is fruit forward with good tannin balance throughout the palate. The fruit on the palate shines and provides flavors from blackberry to slight hints of light raspberry and as it opens up there is a light hint of sweetness and licorice. Although the tannins are still quite prevalent, they are not overwhelming and are approachable now, but will age nicely over next 5-10 years.

Vineyards and Winemaking
The Foley Johnson Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is grown at two different vineyards on the estate. The Peral Vineyard which lies southeast of the Main Vineyard has heavier soils with small amounts of gravel. The Main vineyard is on loamy soils of gravel, clay, and sand which helps provide ample drainage and lessen the vigor of foliage growth. These ideal growing conditions allow our Bordeaux varietals to reach full maturity on the vine without taking on the green leafy taste of under-ripened fruit. The grapes were hand harvested from September 23 through October 25, 2013 under clear night skies. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation and was racked four times throughout the barreling process. After 18
months of aging in new and used French Oak barrels (25% new) the wine was bottled July 16th, 2015.
Vintage
2013 was an exceptional vintage! The warm, dry spring resulted in early bud break, around the same week as last year's vintage. Moderate temps throughout most of the growing season made for ideal conditions, healthy vines, and even ripening. October was cool but sunny, which allowed for extended hang times and complete ripening.
