Firestone - Santa Ynez Valley - Syrah 2014

Founded in 1972, Firestone was the first major estate winery to sink roots in the Santa Ynez Valley. The winery’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean, a mere 26 miles to the west,ensures a relatively mild and arid climate throughout the year. The moderate weather and complex, rocky soils make this a perfect setting for our 340 acres of Bordeaux, Rhone and Burgundian varieties
Tasting Notes
Santa Ynez Valley Syrah is rich and intense with aromas of blackberry and black cherries. The palate offers notes of cassis, dark roast coffee and vanilla all laced with spice tones of nutmeg and allspice. Its opulent texture and tannin weight round out the palate framing a lingering finish.
Vinification
2014 produced fruit of high quality and quantity. An earlier that average bud break beganin the last week of February, and a warm spring led to an early bloom and fruit set. Few incidents of frost and a warmer than average summer allowed the grapes to ripen at an optimal pace. We harvested the fruit from September 14th through October 4th, 2014.
