Food pairing
Drink slightly chilled. It shows all its aromatic splendour when paired with dried fruit sweets, egg-based desserts and medium intensity cheeses. After opened, this Port will keep for 4 to 5 weeks.
Tasting notes
Intense brick-orange color with amber reflections. The nose is elegant and intense, with aromas of nuts, especially walnut, vanilla, citron and smidges of peppermint. In the mouth, it is voluptuous and balanced, with a striking acidity to counterbalance a quasi-overwhelming sweetness, notes of honey and spices, lightly smoked and subtle ripe fruit. Round, long and lasting.
Vinification
It was a cooler than usual year, with an extremely dry and cold winter, causing the retardation of the vegetative cycle and the bud bursting. Flowering came late, with spring with sub-optimal weather conditions, some rainfall and low temperatures. The summer did not allow the vegetative cycle to recover and it was also, when compared to the great summers of the Douro, average, without extreme temperatures and with some precipitation. September, the harvesting month, was not a very exciting one, but it allowed a long and quality vintage, with marked acidity and pleasant aromas of fresh fruit. The grapes were hand picked and transferred to stone lagares where they were manually treaded for optimum extraction of color, tannins and aromatic compounds. At the end of the harvest, the wine was transferred to 600L casks where it aged until the perfect moment for bottling was decided.
