The vintage
The 2008 vintage was characterized by mild winter temperatures and regular rainfall, which were intense in the following Spring. This caused a regular vegetative growth during budding and flowering. The slight water stress, due to the low rainfall and drought during Summer time, gave a natural low yield per hectare and consequently a higher quality of the grapes. The season continued with good weather that provided a very good phenolic ripeness and an excellent extractability od anthocyanins. The harvest had stable conditions - sunny and breezy weather - and considerable day-night temperature range, that ensured a complete maturation of the grapes and a very good hand selection of them. The great knowlesge in the management of hillside vineyards and the expertise in the appassimento (drying process) gave as a result a 2008 vintage that will be remembered for the excellent quality of the wine both in terms of body and in flavour characteristics.
