Technical Details

Estate

Tommasi is historically and today a standard bearer of the Amarone appellation, and one of the most important quality producers in the Veneto. The family-run estate was founded in 1902 by Giacomo Tommasi in the village of Pedemonte, which lies in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region. The family owns 234 acres in Valpolicella Classico, making them the single largest land owners in the area. Over the years they have expanded their holdings in other areas of Italy, and have after many years been able to secure an estate in an outstanding area of Montalcino.

Tasting notes

Ruby red to garnet and elegant on the nose, this is balanced with intense aromas and great finesse that integrate with the fruity and spicy notes typical of the Sangiovese grape. Well structured, harmonious and powerful, it is characterized by velvety tannins and a long finish.

Vineyard

The Casisano vineyards are all south-east exposed and trellised with single spurred cordon. The soils are extremely stony and made up of a shale and clay mixture called galestro.

Vinification

Brunello di Montalcino (100% Sangiovese) undergoes a 25-day fermentation and maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. It is aged for 3 years in large Slavonian oak casks and refined in bottle for an additional 4 months.

Wine

The Podere Casisano stands in a beautiful setting among the silent hills of Montalcino, surrounded by vineyards and woods. It was first founded in 1990 by a medical family from Rome, and was purchased by the Tommasi family in 2015. The total property covers 130 acres, of which 57 are vineyards for Brunello and Rosso and 30 are planted with olive trees. The estate is perched on a splendid natural terrace overlooking the south-east area of Montalcino, between St. Antimo Abbey and the Orcia river valley.
