Reviews

James Suckling 95

The aromas are enticing, with violets, orange peel and hints of sandalwood. Some clove and white pepper undertones. Medium-bodied with a crunchy and polished tannin structure that's juicy and savory. Merlot. Slightly chewy, suggesting it needs time to come around.

The 2020 Casalferro, 100% Merlot, is fabulous. Dark blue/purplish fruit, gravel, leather, licorice and creme de cassis make a strong opening impression. Bright acids and veins of supporting structure are a reminder we are in Chianti Classico. All the elements are so well-balanced. What a gorgeous wine this is.

Wine Advocate 93

Made with 100% Merlot, the Barone Ricasoli 2020 Casalferro has a warm and generous personality that accurately reflects both the character of the grape and the warm vintage. This soft and velvety red wine is packed tight with ripe fruit aromas of black cherry, baked plum, spice and something a little exotic that reminds me of the chocolate made in Modica, Sicily. Past vintages have shown a floral character, but 2020 delivers a lot of upfront berry fruit instead. Fruit is sourced from three sites: Vigna Sodacci, with sandstone soil; Vigna Pecchierino, with alberese soil; and Vigna Casalferro, with a mix of sandstone and alberese.

Wine Spectator 96

This rich, pure red is generous in its flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, fruitcake, earth and spices. The tannins are well-integrated and overall this is harmonious and long, echoing the lush fruit and spice elements. This is all about elegance and finesse, making it approachable now. Merlot.
