Reviews

Wine Enthusiast 94

As you dive deeper into Marsala and get a feel for the nuances expressed by the different styles and ages you encounter, it starts to feel a little bit like working with a good tailor. Each bottle has a purpose and a fit for an occasion. The Florio Vintage line offers a capsule collection, and the 2006 is your morning suit, your stroller. Appropriate for every day, but still makes you feel like a star.

James Suckling 93

This has a yeasty and nutty character with notes of toasted almonds, dried oranges and caramel. Medium- to full-bodied, dry and creamy on the palate with a reserved, oxidative character and nut shell and saline undertones in the finish. Matured in oak casks for 16 years. Drink or hold.

Technical Details

Ageing

17 years. This Marsala Vergine has been ageing in old casks since 11/22/2006 and has its roots in the Garibaldi Winery, in cask 26DAG, 134 metres from the sea.

Harvest

Manual harvest, starting in mid-September, of grapes left to over-ripen on the vine in order to reach a high sugar content and a high concentration of polyphenols.

Tasting notes

Gold. Sensations of toasted hazelnuts, on the nose it gives spices and cereals. Balanced exercise in style, vertical on the palate, always conquers with its flavor.

Serve between 14-16C.

Vinification

Deeply coloured musts, rich in dry extracts and with intense savoury marine notes, are vigorously extracted using a traditional wine press. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks with continuous micro-oxygenation, also after fermentation, to prepare the wine before adding alcohol, thus initiating the Marsala DOC production process.

A small percentage of ethyl alcohol derived from the vines is added to the wine.
