Description
Nero d'Avola is the most important and widely planted red wine grape variety in Sicily. The dark-skinned grape is of great historical importance to Sicily and takes its present-day name from the town of Avola on the island's southeast coast. Translated, Nero d'Avola means "Black of Avola", a reference to the grape's distinctive dark coloring. It is often compared to Syrah because it likes similar growing conditions (Sicily has a hot Mediterranean climate) and exhibits many similar characteristics.
Food pairing
Perfect with Mediterranean style spiced food.
Tasting notes
Color: Dark, dense ruby color.
Nose: Beautiful aromas of licorice, blackberries and blueberries.
Palate: Medium-bodied, supple texture, delicious wine with considerable character. The finish is long and persistent.
Vinification
Certainly the most famous Sicilian varietal, our Nero d’Avola is vinified following the traditional method: completely mature grapes are hand picked from vineyards, the fermentation and maceration with the skins take place at controlled temperatures of 23-25°C. A further ageing in the bottle enhance the richness of this flavourful wine.
