Wine Enthusiast 93

A bouquet of purple flowers and ripe, juicy cherries greets the nose as warmed rose petals, thyme and wild berry compote dusted with spices tickle the senses. Anise, bitter orange, hazelnut skin and dried leaves add intrigue, while soft, pliant tannins make it irresistible. Drink now, while it's as inviting as a cozy blanket.

Technical Details

Description

The “Rigore” Starderi Barbaresco DOCG is a unique, fine, elegant and consistent Barbaresco that develop specific characteristics determined by the soil in which it grows. The vineyard of the Cru Starderi, exposed to the south-west, proliferates on a clayey marl which gives the wine great structure and a silky tannin on the palate.

Estate

Welcome to Mura Mura, where the beauty and tradition of Piedmont yield wines of exceptional elegance and harmony.

Guido Martinetti and Federico Grom, childhood friends and founders of Gelaterie GROM, bought the land in Costigliole d’Asti in 2008, giving life to Mura Mura farm. Initially the 8-hectare property was almost entirely dedicated to the production of fruit.

In 2011, 2015 and 2018, Martinetti and Grom expanded the estates boundaries. They purchased additional hectares of land, which today includes 30 hectares in Costigliole, of which 10 are mainly planted to Barbera and Grignolino vines. They have also established 4 hectares in the Barbaresco DOCG and a 1 hectare in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Barolo DOCG. Mura Mura is a SQNPI Sustainably certified company, respecting the climatic environmental and cultural character that distinguish the different agricultural areas of the Italian territory.

Tasting notes

The Barbaresco Starderi shows ripe red and black berries with juniper aromas, some tobacco, pepper and tar. Ripe and juicy fruit with fresh herbs and slightly bitter chocolate aromas, lively acidity and grip of fine tannins. Lots of power and good persistence, with nice spice and hints of smoky herbs in the background. A beautiful wine with great balance. 100% Nebbiolo
