Technical Details

Appellation

Located in the Western part of the Northern Rhone, Ardeche is a region that also encompasses the famous appellations of Saint-Joseph and Cornas. This region features a warm Mediterranean climate, benefited by cool northern Mistral winds that travel down the Rhone Valley. Here, pebbly shallow soils with limestone drain freely and stress vines, leading to good concentration in the grapes. This region has a long history of grape growing back to 17th century.

Estate

Domaine Frederic Esmonin is a highly regarded, family run estate from Burgundy's Gevrey-Chambertain appellation. They have been farming their 10-acres of family vineyards for generations and selling their fruit to the likes of Drouhin, Jadot, and Leroy. In 1988 they began to produce their own labels and bottle under their own name. Access to some of the best vineyard plots in the region is Esmonin's greatest fortunes, including many Grand Cru & Premier Cru parcels.

Vintage

Spring 2021, frost damaged 90% of the Esmonin vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin and Bourgogne appellation, Frederic and his father immediately called their friends in the south to purchase their Pinot Noir grapes.

From April 2021 to September 2021, the Esmonin’s sent their winemakers to this vineyard in the Ardeche to manage the vineyard with the same care of their own Estate in Gevrey Chambertin.

Every grape was carefully transported by covered truck to their cellars in Gevrey-Chambertin. They crushed the grapes, vinified, aged and bottled this Pinot Noir in their small cellar in Gevrey-Chambertin, with the same care as their Grand Cru.

Tasting notes

Les Montvrieres Pinot Noir is a classic Burgundy style Pinot Noir with bright red fruit notes of fresh cherry and strawberries. It is bright and smooth in the mouth with nice freshness and layers of flavor delivering excellent length on the palate. A great food pairing with pot roast, roasted chicken, pork chops, seared tuna, mild cheeses and dishes with black truffles and porcini mushrooms. Produced from 100% Pinot Noir.
