James Suckling 89
Aromas of mulberries, dark plums, dried herbs, bark and graphite. Iodine and oyster shell, too. Medium body with chalky tannins. Austere and firm finish.

Description
A 36-hectare estate, Château Leret flourishes in the heart of the Cahor appellation. The domain occupies a plateau and is situated next to the Lot reiver, the largest river in the region. The soil is clay-limestone with a stony subsoil with pebbles from the river bed. This mix of very interesting terroirs makes it possible to have wines that are both round and fine, fresh and fruity. It is a beautiful alchemy of Cahors wines from the plateau and the valley.
Composed for the most part of Malbec (90%) and the remainder of Merlot, the vineyard was replanted between 1965 and 1975. The estate carries out green harvesting, controls the yields and utilizes long maturations. This relentless work in the vineyard results in high quality grapes and top quality wines. It is also certified High Environmental Value (HVE), for its sustainable production.
