Reviews

Wine Enthusiast 92

Richly structured and full of serious dark Malbec flavors, this is a powerful and dense wine. Its tannins are still firm, developing alongside the black plum fruits. The combination, along with the acidity, will give a rich wine, complex and ageworthy, from 2022

by RV, Wine Enthusiast , 2020

James Suckling 91

Vibrant nose of lavender, thyme, wild blueberries, plums and raw cocoa. It’s medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins. Firm and rustic with flavorful walnut and cocoa notes on the finish.

Technical Details

Description

A 36-hectare estate, Château Leret flourishes in the heart of the Cahor appellation. The domain occupies a plateau and is situated next to the Lot reiver, the largest river in the region. The soil is clay-limestone with a stony subsoil with pebbles from the river bed. This mix of very interesting terroirs makes it possible to have wines that are both round and fine, fresh and fruity. It is a beautiful alchemy of Cahors wines from the plateau and the valley. Composed for the most part of Malbec (90%) and the remainder of Merlot, the vineyard was replanted between 1965 and 1975. The estate carries out green harvesting, controls the yields and utilizes long maturations. This relentless work in the vineyard results in high quality grapes and top quality wines. It is also certified High Environmental Value (HVE), for its sustainable production.

Tasting notes

Deep, rich color of impressive density. Plenty of body and a good lenght. The powerful tannins are softened by a well-integrated oak from ageing in barrels. Intense nose of back fruits like blackcurrant and mixed spices. A great pairing with poultry, game, cheeses, all rich foods. 90% Malbec & 10% Merlot

Vinification

Long and traditional wine-making process and then aged 12 months in oak barrels, partially new.
