Description

Brotte Crozes Hermitage La Rollande, is a tribute to the feminine harmony of the wine. Rollande was a very popular female first name in 1931, date of the creation of Maison Brotte. It means glory and courage. Sourced from a relatively flat region, in a triangle formed between the hills of Tain l'Hermitage, the Rhône and the Isère rivers, from clay soils with a mild climate. Made primarily with Syrah, the wine displays pleasant freshness and harmony, with cherry and blackcurrant notes and well defined tannins on the finish.

Food pairing

Enjoy with duck breast in green pepper sauce with potato dauphinois, veal prune and almond tagine, soft cheeses or even ice cream with chocolate & star anise sauce.

History

La Rollande : A tribute to the feminine harmony of the cuvée. This female first name reaches its highest popularity in 1931, date of creation of Brotte House. It means glory and courage. This appellation spreads over 11 communes within a triangle formed between the hills of Tain l’Hermitage, the Rhône river and the Isère river. It is, in volume, the most important cru of the Northern Rhône. The vineyards are situated on the plain below the surrounding hills where the soils are made up of granite and quarternary alluvial deposits left by the Isère river (clay and gravel). We select our wine yearly from amongst a small group of trusted wineries of the appellation with whom we have been working for many years.

Tasting notes

Color: Dark with hints of deep purple. Nose: Intense blackcurrant and violet aromas with spicy notes of white pepper, liquorice, vanilla, black olives and a hint of laurel leaves. Palate: Harmonious and firm, suggestive of cherries and blackcurrant with long and well defined tannins on the finish. The long and flavourful finale reveals black fruits notes.

Vinification

Ploughing of the soils, de-leafing and green harvest during the year. The grapes are hand harvested at full maturity. Grapes are then de-stemmed and crushed. The maceration last 15 days in stainless steel vats at a medium temperature (26°C – 28°C) in order to preserve primary fruit aromas. The wine is then aged in 100 year old oak vats and concrete vats for 12 months before bottling.

Vintage

2016 : An exceptional year. The reds are aromatic, powerful, round, fine and balanced, while the whites display freshness, unctuosity, full body and great length.
