Estate
The firm of E. Guigal, located in Ampuis, was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal. Since 1961 his son Marcel has led the estate, and his unparalleled work ethic and dedication to quality have brought attention to Cote-Rotie and other appellations throughout the Rhone that were in danger of being lost, and lifted the Guigal wines to the pinnacle of the wine world. Today, Marcel’s son Philippe serves as Director and Oenologist, continuing the tradition of leadership in the Rhone Valley and uncompromising excellence.
Vineyard
The vineyard situated on a vertiginous slope in the center of the Cote Brune that enjoys perfect southern exposure, the vineyard benefits from a complex soil of shale and iron oxide that lends finesse to the wine. The average yield is 35 Hl/ hectare.
Vinification
The wine is thermoregulated in stainless steel tanks with regular pumpovers. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration is a minimum of 4 weeks and aged in new oak barrels for 40 months.
Wine
La Turque is Guigal's latest addition to the single-vineyard Cote Roties, acquired in 1985. It is also the smallest, with just under a hectare planted to 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier.
