Robert Parker 89
A classic blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hauts de Barville is full-bodied, creamy and plush but largely inexpressive on the nose. With its impressive level of concentration and tannins, it should drink well through 2025

Vivid ruby-red. A wild, perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, passion fruit and incense, while a smoky mineral flourish builds in the glass. Juicy and smooth in texture, offering appealingly sweet raspberry and cherry liqueur flavors and an exotic hint of peach pit. Fine-grained tannins shape the clinging finish, which leaves a hint of candied rose behind.

Vinification and maturation
Sustainable viticulture, de-budding, de-leafing and green harvest limit the yield and increase the quality. Hand-picking,, de-steming, gentle crushing are followed by a controlled fermentation at 28 Celsius, and a 3 to 4 week maceration. The tannic Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre are aged in French oak barrels, while the softer Grenache is matured in concrete vats and 100 year old large oak casks to preserve the fruit. Bottling takes place in November, after a year of ageing and a light filtering.
An exceptional year. The reds are aromatic, powerful, round, fine and balanced, while the whites display freshness, unctuosity, full body and great length. 2015 : An excellent vintage. The wines have very long ageing capacity, or can be enjoyed as of today. Very well balanced, fruity, flavoursome wines, with noticeable fine tannins for the reds, spicy and aniseed finales for the whites.
History and Vineyard
Having long time expertise in the appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Brotte House knows very well the "terroirs" of the area. "Les Hauts de Barville" has distinctive richness and unctuosity, in the same style as Domaine Barville, Brotte family’s estate wine in the name of ancestors, the Barville. We select varieties which sublimate the majority Grenache on the best exposed terroirs of pebbles, limestone and sand of the prestigious cru of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The selection gives this great wine beautiful concentration, a rich symphony of aromatic notes : red fruits (strawberry mainly), spices, truffles, "guarrigue" ("scrub land"). A patient maturation in 100 year old large oak casks and French oak barrels during one year develop the smoothness and richness of aromas and tannins.
