Technical Details

Description

Cherry-picked by Mathilde Chapoutier Selection, the Château des Ferrages domain is in Pourcieux, halfway between Aix-en- Provence and Saint-Maximin, in the prime plots of the Sainte-Victoire appellation. The coolness of the weather is one of its blessings. Whilst Rosé wine was already being made in this domain, hillside plots were quickly identified to produce red wine, and others still for white. Two parcels of land have emerged from this area, now applying biodynamic farming principles.

Estate

The name Chapoutier occupies a storied place in the history of the Rhône Valley, beginning 1808, when the family first settled in the Rhône Valley. Throughout the 19th century and well into the next, M. CHAPOUTIER and its eponymous winery grew steadily, producing wine from esteemed vineyard sites such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. However, 1990 was a watershed moment for the winery, with the arrival of Michel Chapoutier. Under his leadership, the maverick winemaker established bold initiatives. For example, the introduction of Single Vineyard Selection that express the unique terroir of a site, or wine labels embossed in braille for the visually impaired. In each instance, Michel’s decisions were, and continue to be, driven by a deep respect for the soil, climate, and his fellow human beings.

Tasting notes

This Côtes de Provence Rosé has a pale rose-petal hue with fresh and fruity aromatic characters of strawberry, grapefruit, citrus and peach. It is fresh, well-balanced, smooth and pairs well with salads, melon, spicy dishes and grilled meats.

Vinification

With a 1 square km winery that has a total production capacity of 3,500 hectolitres, the estate currently produces 1,400 hectolitres per year. The soil is clay-limestone. Viticulture is done the traditional way. A combination of modern winemaking techniques and traditional ageing produces distinctive wines with lots of personality.
