Technical Details

Estate

The story of Château la Gordonne begins around the 1st century BC with the Romans having colonized the region to benefit from its vines and wines. In 1850, the Château and outlying buildings were completely renovated, and the Château has been selling wines ever since. Vines are planted on terraces with clay-limestone soil and schistose slopes in the heart of the Golden Triangle of Provence, allowing vineyards to grow in the best conditions to produce high quality grapes. The Château La Gordonne estate is also home to one of the 174 bells of the Var, dating back to the French Revolution. The bell was cast in 1654 and originates from a former chapel located on the grounds of La Gordonne. In 2021, vineyards of Château La Gordonne will be certified organic according to the specifications of the EU after 3 years of conversion.

Tasting notes

The La Chapelle Gordonne features aromas of pink grapefruit with white floral notes. The very rich mineral quality is poetic, reminding us of the sun rising over the Provence garrigue on a summer day. The palate is fresh, delicate, and smooth, bursting with small fresh fruits, cherries, and berries. The long and pleasant finish expresses the finesse and flavor of a wild strawberry sorbet. This is a brilliant Rosé crafted from a blend of Grenache, Cinsault & Mourvedre.

Vinification

Clinging to the schist hillsides around Pierrefeu-du-Var, the best parcels of the Château La Gordonne are carefully selected for this cuvée. The grapes are exclusively harvested at night to benefit from the low temperatures and to increase the quality. They are directly pressed to extract only the first juices called “Tête de Cuvée”. Fermentation occurs partly in French oak casks for three weeks. Once completed, oenologists and cellar masters meet to decide the perfect blend (in terms of colors and aromas balance) for this fine dining Rosé.
