Reviews

Wine Spectator 92

An elegant Champagne, with flavors of white peach and raspberry fruit, smoked almond, and blood orange sorbet riding the plush, finely detailed mousse. Offering juicy, refreshing acidity, this is well-knit, with hints of fleur de sel, verbena and vanilla lingering on the finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.

Technical Details

Description

Honoring the historical legacy of 17 crus, Apanage Brut 1874 creates a distinctive backbone, featuring outstanding terroirs, including the magnificent Clos Pompadour in Reims. This blend integrates great vintages—primarily the superb 2018, with touches of 2015 and 2012—to highlight the Cuvée’s originality. With a predominance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the finest origins, complemented by exceptional Meuniers from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne, it is crafted to be appreciated by a broad spectrum of connoisseurs.

Apanage Brut 1874 is aged for 48 months in the Butte Saint-Nicaise crayères (chalk pits) and features a low dosage to align with contemporary preferences. As a remarkable bottle, it reinterprets all dimensions of tasting—flavors, freshness, tension, salinity, minerality, sweetness, bitterness, and umami. Apanage Brut 1874 stands as an outstanding expression of Maison Pommery’s identity, embodying absolute purity.ensions of tasting through its flavours, freshness or tension, salinity or minerality, sweetness, bitterness and umami. Estate

The reputation of the Pommery Champagne House has been written since 1858, when Madame Pommery took over the running of the estate following the death of her husband. Wishing to create unique wines, Madame Pommery paid particular attention to the quality of the grapes and gradually developed an exceptional vineyard in Champagne. In July 1868, Madame Pommery, a visionary woman, commenced major work to transform the house’s underground chalk pits into cellars and thus, created the first Brut champagne in 1874. The Champagne House is owned by the Vranken-Pommery Monopole group, which are at the helm of the largest vineyard in Europe. The wines by the Pommery Champagne House are renowned for their finesse, their vivacity and their rich and elegant aromatic palette.

Tasting notes

A pale yellow with golden highlights, fine delicate bubbles. White flowers — hawthorn and jasmine — lead, supported by ripe citrus fruits like Sorrento lemon. Over time, more complex toasty notes emerge: acacia honey, marshmallow, brioche. Begins with a smooth, delicately buttery attack. Moves into white nectarine, with elegant freshness and a firm mineral undercurrent from its terroir. The texture is velvety; rich and multi-layered. The finish is full-bodied, long, with lingering citrus zest completing the flavor profile.
