Description
Located in the hillsides the Pouilly-Fuisse, Sous le Roche vineyard is in the heart of a wonderful Maconnais landscape. A series of gentle hills covers the vineyard but as we move south, it becomes more rocky. The sub-soil here is made up of calcareous bedrock and results in wines with great minerality and freshness.
Tasting notes
The Pouilly-Fuisse, Sous la Roche reveals aromas of fruits and acacia on the nose. In the mouth, aromas of fresh fruits, especially citrus, come along with notes of honey on the finish. A rich and very well balanced wine.
Vinification
After a first pneumatic press step, both fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel tanks for 10 to 11 months. A complete malolactic fermentation is made which adds an extra level of complexity while highlighting the freshness of the Pouilly-Fuisse appellation.
Estate
Located in the heart of Brouilly since 1888, Henry Fessy is family company specializing in the production of Beaujolais Crus. The domaine covers almost 70 hectares and includes vineyards in the appellations of Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Chénas, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, Saint Amour, Beaujolais-Villages, Beaujolais and Beaujolais Blanc. The vines are an average of 50 years old and are trained in the traditional manner en Gobelet, which are individual low bush vines. The domaine's vineyards are managed with sensitivity towards the environment with intervention only taking place when it is necessary and beneficial. This philosophy allows them to produce characterful wines which express a true sense of place and origin.
