Reviews

Wine Spectator 90

This red's cherry, blackberry, violet, vegetal and spice flavors get a lift from lively acidity and dusty tannins. Linear and focused, this firms up on the finish, yet the lasting impression is ripe fruit.

Technical Details

Tasting notes

Supple in texture, this red boasts cherry, black currant, graphite and earth notes. Starts out very elegant for the appellation, picking up firm tannins and more weight on the long finish.

Estate

Domaine Frederic Esmonin, from Burgundy's Gevrey-Chambertain appellation, is a true family collaboration that consists of Frederic, his father, Andre, and his mother, Michele. They have been farming their 10-acres of family vineyards for generations and selling their fruit to the likes of Drouhin, Jadot, and Leroy. In 1988 they began to commercialize their own labels today they are producing consistently high-quality, beautiful wines that represent a great value considering their pedigree.

Harvest

The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted. 100% whole cluster (not destemmed). Two weeks of fermentation, followed by aging in used 228-liter barrels for 18 to 20 months.

Terroir

From 50-year-old vines. This plot is located just above the hillside of the Premier Cru "Les Pruliers." Here, there is only a thin layer of soil, followed by pure stone terroir. A more robust expression of Pinot Noir.

Vineyard

"The various sections of the vineyard are located, as the name suggests, above Les Pruliers Premier Cru. One village-level part is adjacent to the latter's southern half, the other on the far side of the D8 road. The Les Hauts Pruliers Premier Cru parcel directly borders Les Pruliers for 50 meters or so halfway along its eastern border. On a map it looks as if it should be considered as a continuation of Les Crots, a thin strip of which runs above Les Pruliers northern section." Atherton Wine Imports
