Description
The Latin origin of Maltroie, "Marturetum", leads us to believe that this parcel lies on the top of an ancient burial ground dating to before the IV century. Situated on a slight incline at an altitude of 240-255m, this parcel of almost 3 hectares profits from a south-easterly exposure and stony clay soils.
Tasting notes
This rich, luscious wine is balanced well between acidity and ripe, generous fruit. The rich citrus and spice flavors are enhanced by the mineral texture, the wood-aging toastiness and by ripe white fruits. The wine is delicious but needs to age.
History
Château de Santenay is one of Burgundy’s largest wine domaines. Its prestigious heritage, which comprises a remarkable Château with a glazed tile roof and 90 hectares of vineyards, is the product of a time-old legacy that is closely tied to the history of the Burgundy wine region. This remarkable château, with its varnished tiles, is a spectacular piece of heritage closely tied to the region’s history. Its vineyards are split between the Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise. The diversity of its ‘climats’ results in a rich palette of wines with distinctive styles that reflect the subtleties of the Burgundy varietals.
Vineyard
In the south of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet shares with Puligny the undisputed prince of all the dry white wines of creation: the divine Montrachet (pronounced Mon-rachet). This wide and beautiful hillside brings the two Burgundian grape varieties to excellence. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay flourish here side by side due to the complexity of the terroirs.
Vinification
Traditional. Moderate pneumatic pressing. Settling of the musts for 12 hours then full fermentation in a 228l barrel. Aging on lees.
