Description
Chateau de Santenay has a rich medieval past and was formerly owned by the Duke of Burgundy, Philippe le Hardi (Philip the Bold), this beautiful Pinot Noir is named in his honor. Located on the slopes surrounding the village of Santenay, the chateau stands like a flagship, a majestic stately home that once belonged to Philippe le Hardi (Philip the Bold) (1342-1404), the First Duke of Burgundy and son of King Jean le Bon (John the Good) of France.
A monopole (French for 'monopoly') is a single vineyard that is entire owned by one winery, in this case Chateau de Santenay.
Tasting notes
This single vineyard Pinot Noir is cherry red in color with glints of dark ruby. The nose offers aromas of cherry, blackcurrant, and blackberry, with hints of grenadine and peony. The mouth is rounded and delicate, with fine tannins and good fruit, leading to a bright finish. Its fresh and fruity taste will liven up your aperitifs when accompanied by a selection of cold cuts and cheese or a gourmet salad.
History
Château de Santenay is one of Burgundy’s largest wine domaines. Its prestigious heritage, which comprises a remarkable Château with a glazed tile roof and 90 hectares of vineyards, is the product of a time-old legacy that is closely tied to the history of the Burgundy wine region. This remarkable château, with its varnished tiles, is a spectacular piece of heritage closely tied to the region’s history. Its vineyards are split between the Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise. The diversity of its ‘climats’ results in a rich palette of wines with distinctive styles that reflect the subtleties of the Burgundy varietals.
Vinification
This wine is located on the same slope where our Saint-Aubin "En Vesvau" and our Hautes Côtes de Beaune white are produced. This limited production is very special.
The terroir is resolutely intended for the production of white wines. However, we decided to plant Pinot Noir. The wine produced is all finesse and elegance.
