Reviews

James Suckling 92-93

A subtly fruity wine with plum and currant character and hints of dried flowers. Medium body, velvety tannins and an attractive finish.

by JS, James Suckling , 2019

Wine Advocate 90-92

The 2018 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is deep garnet-purple colored with earthy, mushroomy notions and savory meats over a cassis and plums core plus herbs hints. The full-bodied palate is rich and packed with fruit, with firm, grainy tannins and a long finish.

by LP, Wine Advocate , 2019

Wine Spectator 90

Nicely focused, with a racy beam of cassis and dark plum fruit laced with violet and anise hints. Sleek finish has a tinge of singed wood at the very end. Approachable now. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2028.

by JM, Wine Spectator , 2021

Technical Details

Ageing

Blending in January. Maturation for 13 months. 20 % of new oak barrels. Fining in barrel with fresh egg whites. Final blending before bottling.

Tasting notes

Purple color, red fruits aromas and spicy notes. Racy tannins well integrated which give to this excellent wine a large window of tasting.

Vinification

The contents of vats are selected according to the grape varieties, the age of the vines, the « terroir » and the maturity. 220 hl stainless steel vats with thermo regulation. Vinification at 26-28C during 15 to 22 days. Moderate pumping over every day, or delestage or pigeage. Malolactic fermentation through co inoculation.

Vintage

In 2018 the total rainfall was above the average of the last two decades, mainly due to the heavy rainfall in the first half of the year. The average temperatures were also among the highest ever recorded by our weather station. The summer was, however, one of the driest recorded at Lagrange since 1996. The hot, dry weather continued through September and October for harvest time.
