Chateau Lalande is situated in St Julien de Beychevelle next to Chateau Talbot and Chateau Lagrange (3rd Cru Classe). One of the most famous wine producing regions in the world, Bordeaux is home to both cheap, bulk produced wines, as well as some of the most respected and expensive producers too. The majority of it is red grapes which, when blended together are known as a claret, or a ‘Bordeaux blend’. It does also make sweet wines (most notably Sauternes) and dry whites too, known as ‘Bordeaux Blanc’. The Bordeaux wine-producing region is divided by the river Gironde into the Left Bank and the Right Bank. Left Bank blends are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrives on the gravelly soils there. The regions of Haut-Médoc , Médoc, Pessac-Léognan, Margaux, St Julien, St Estèphe, and Pauillac are all found here. Over on the Right Bank the Merlot grape is more dominant, producing softer style wines from the regions of Saint-Emilion, Fronsac, Lalande-de-Pomerol and Pomerol.
Tasting notes
Classic Left Bank St Julien Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Bordeaux at an affordable price. Vibrant blackcurrant fruit, cedar box and touch of menthol and tobacco with a great tannin structure and vibrant acidity. The 2012s from Bordeaux are just so approachable with fine tannins and elegant mouthfeel yet retaining lovely, concentrated, ripe fruit.
