Reviews

James Suckling 92

Aromas of fresh herbs and berry with chocolate powder undertones. Full and very velvety with a lovely finish.

Wine Enthusiast 93

One of the chateaus owned by negociant Borie-Manoux, Lynch-Moussas has produced a fine, stylish 2010, which is firmly based on Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is rich and ripe, dominated by a blackberry note and underpinned by tannins. This is a chateau to watch.

Wine Advocate 89+

The 2010 is a strong effort and one of their best wines in a generation or more. Some toasty oak seems relatively strong, but not excessive. Deep ruby/purple, notes of black fruits as well as red currants, fig and plum are all present. The wine has a good bit of flesh, fat, but then shuts down in the finish, with moderately high tannins. By all counts, this is an excellent Pauillac that just needs a few years of cellaring to resolve some of its oak and tannin, but has the potential to be outstanding if given sufficient bottle age. It should last for two decades.

Technical Details

Estate

Grand Cru Classe AOC Pauillac
A 5th Cru of the classification of 1855.
The Irishman John Lynch acquired the estate together with the vineyards of what is today the neighbouring Chateau Lynch-Bages and had the chateau built in the 18th century.
The Casteja family, proprietor in Pauillac since the 16th century, acquired Chateau Lynch-Moussas in the beginning of the 20th century. From the 1970ies onwards until today, major investments have been made at the Chateau and in the vineyard, significantly improving quality. Chateau Lynch-Moussas is the only Casteja-Chateau on the left bank not exclusively distributed through Borie-Manoux but through the "place de Bordeaux".
