Description
Château Lestage shows a deep purple color. It has an attractive, clean and pure bouquet with lifted strawberry and raspberry scents infused with a touch of vanilla from new oak. On the palate, the wine offers a lot of ripe red fruit and black current flavors. It shows good structure with silky tannins, for some good aging. The finish is long and harmonious. 62% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon & 1% Petit Verdot
Environmentally friendly growing practices, respecting both the plant and its environment. Strict selection of the parcels and the grapes. gentle crushing and destemming of the grapes, the must is then put into small-thermoregulated vats ensuring that the fermentations are perfectly controlled. The vatting period lasts 20 to 25 days depending on the vintage. Maturing lasts around 12 months in French oak barrels, a 1/3 of which are replaced each year.
Food pairing: Perfect with grilled red meat, cheese or with chocolate cake.
Estate
Château Lestage has been owned by the Chanfreau Family for more than 50 years. Its vineyard are farmed sustainably and consist of 104 acres in the Listrac-Médoc appellation and 22 acres in Moulis-en-Médoc. These vineyards are located on the highest point of the Medoc, the Puy de Menjon, 140 above sea level. With over 60% of the vineyards devoted to Merlot this unique terroir produces elegant wines with an excellent ability to develop and age. The estate has been recognized as a Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnel, the top tier classification for the region.
The selection is made by an independent panel of experts and will be reviewed every five years. Several factors are considered including agricultural, environmental and technical as well as site visits. Multiple vintages are then blind tasted from each Chateau to determine the final classification.
