Appellation : HAUT MEDOC CRU BOURGEOIS
Owner & History : Located in between the appellations of Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe and not far away from famous Chateaux such as Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Pontet Canet, Chateau Reynats is a family and artisanal property managed by Mr Jean-Claude Gallier. The philosophy of the Chateau is to respect the nature of the wine, not being interventionist and following traditional vinification practices. Their wine cellar dates to the 1700's
Geographical Situation : Cissac Medoc, between Pauillac and Saint Estephe
Grape Varieties : 40% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot
Terroir : Clay Limestone and Gravels
Surface : 5 hectares
Average Age : 35 years (15 years for the youngest and 60 years for the oldest)
Cultural Methods : Traditional cultural methods, maceration in stainless steel vats, all the harvest is done solely by hand
Yield : 45 ha/hl // 6500 vines per hectare
Vinification : Traditional vinification, maceration in stainless steel vats using non interventionist methods
Ageing : Ageing in French oak barrels for 18 months, 1/3 in new barrels “Vicard” from Cognac with a medium toast
Tasting Comments: This wine shows a pronounced nose of ripe black fruits such as black plums and blackberries combined with some tertiary aromas such as cinnamon, vanilla, and butterscotch. It is full bodied, with almost graffite like tannins, fresh showing a very good balance and structure. The finish is long reminiscent of ripe fruits, with a mineral note.
