Wonderful aromas of crushed berries, wet earth and rose petals. Medium body and integrated and fine tannins. Very polished and pretty. Needs at least two years to soften a little but a beauty already. Tiny production due to hail.

The 2014 Potensac has a well-defined bouquet with oyster-shell tinged black fruit, aromatics that are very evocative of the estuary, perhaps absorbing some of the Gironde. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin on the entry, a mixture of red and black fruit, a pinch of white pepper and a pretty, quite elegant finish. Go for the Grand Vin this year rather than the Deuxième.

With low yields after a hail storm, the wine is concentrated and dense. It has a touch of wood aging as well as dark black fruits. The tannins are firm in a wine that will age well over the medium term.

This has a core of lightly mulled plum, cherry and red currant fruit, all framed by a slightly taut singed cedar note. A bright streak of iron underscores the finish, leaving a mouthwatering feel. A minerally style that should age well in the short term.

The growth cycle for this 2014 vintage was two weeks ahead of the average over the past decade, due to a particularly mild and wet winter and warm weather in early spring. Cooler temperatures followed, especially in May, and slowed down the development until blossoming time. The beginning of the flowering was wet but beautiful weather soon arrived and allowed the last stages of the flowering to take place in excellent conditions and more quickly. A stormy period then set in through June and July with rain spells and some very hot days. The colour change was quite spun out over time but, just as the drier period had helped the flowering, the dry weather from late August through to the harvest, allowed the colour to even out at the end of the colour change phase and enabled an excellent ripening with a good hydric stress to guarantee quality. In this vintage of extremely generous growth , the succession of two careful deleafings and suckerremovals ensured good permeability of the fruit-bearing zones and helped to maintain each of the grape varieties in excellent health until their optimum picking dates.
