The Chateau
A legend has it that the name "La Dominique" was given to the estate by a rich merchant who acquired the property at the end of the XVIIIth century. He had made his fortune in the Caribbeans and gave the estate the name of his favorite island. The name "La Dominique" is on the Belleyme map published in 1785 and in the first editions of "Bordeaux and its wine" published by Editions Feret in 1868.
Chateau La Dominque is greatly located on the northwest of Saint-Emilion with a prestigious neighborhood: Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Figeac on its left side, and Chateau L'Evangile and Chateau La Conseillante on the Pomerol side, just north of the estate. A neighborhood which counts amongst the greatest soils. The professor Henri Enjalbert who studied soils and subsoils compares those of La Dominique to those of Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Figeac.
The estate successively belonging to the Soualle Family and the Baillencourt Family (owner of Chateau Gazin - Pomerol, adjacent of Chateau L'Evangile and Petrus) until the acquisition by Clement Fayat in 1969. Since then, the vineyard has been entirely restructured and drained. Clement Fayat has rebuilt, replanted, improved, enlarged and continues to undertake some spectacular construction works. In the spring of 2012, Jean Nouvel will start his futuristic project in the new cellar of a new cellar with an innovative reception concept.
Throughout the year, the technical team brings all her know-how to the vineyard in order to produce the highest quality of grapes. The actual cellar is equipped of thermo regulated stainless steel vats which allows a vinification by plot. The vinification is adapted very precisely to the quality of the harvest in order to obtain the grapes' quintessence. This has led to the development of a high quality wine in optimal conditions to be one of the best of this famous appellation. Michel Rolland, the adviser oenologist, is well esteemed and provides the estate with precious advices. This wine unifies the Saint-Emilion generosity and the Pomerol sap. Richly colored, intense, very radient, opulent and silky.
