Reviews

James Suckling 96

Very ripe and opulent but pretty fresh at the same, with plenty of blackberries, some fresh figs, dark chocolate and flowers. Very concentrated on the full-bodied palate with ripe, densely packed tannins. Rich, very flavorful and long. Pretty hedonistic for 2021. Flamboyant, flavorful and extravagant.

Wine Enthusiast 93

Ripe berries and earthy tones introduce a bold Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from the Maipo Valley. Finely grained tannins hold a palate that bursts with dark chocolate notes and bright strawberry, raspberry and plum flavors. Optimal acidity adds freshness and extends notes of oregano and other dried herbs into the finish.

Vinous Media 94

A cold year makes a notable difference in reflecting the nuances of Maipo, and the 2021 Baronesa P. is a prime example. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenere and Petit Verdot features a dark garnet hue. On the nose, balsamic aromas combine with notes of sandalwood and black fruit marmalade. Indulgent, rich and juicy on the palate, it possesses fine-grained, polished tannins and a bold mouthfeel that leads to a long-lasting, savory and clingy finish. This is a tasty, complex red.

Technical Details

Aging

14 months in French oak, 65% new and 35% 1-year-old barrels.

Description

Baronesa P. is a selection of the finest micro-terroirs, selected over a period of several years based on experience and understanding of these soils and vineyards. Over many years and after producing countless batches, they refined their selection to create this cuvée in honor of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild.

Tasting notes

The color is intense, deep ruby-red with violet highlights. The nose, intense and potent revealing black fruit aromas with predominant notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry. Spices such as black pepper gradually mingled with subtle aromas of cedarwood, vanilla, caramel, and toasted hazelnuts imparted by oak ageing. The Palate starts out lush and complex with good concentration accompanied by elegantly structured and wonderfully ripe tannins. Nicely balanced with a natural freshness that brings out a complex aromatic expression where wild blueberry and blackberry notes elegantly intertwine with Asian spices and a hint of toffee. The exceptionally persistent finish combines power and elegance, accounting for this wine's excellent ageing potential.

Terroir

The estates vineyards are grown in a Mediterranean climate greatly influenced by the cold air that comes down from the Andes Mountains at night, cooling the valley all year round, but especially during the summer months. This means the day and nighttime temperatures vary significantly, a highly favorable characteristic for the maturation of world class grapes.
