Reviews

James Suckling 95

This opens with subtle aromas of orange blossoms, fennel, peaches and citrus. Atypical for torrontes, it forgoes the overt varietal character in favor of a more restrained and elegant expression. The palate is saline and textured, leading to a rich, toffee-like finish. Aged for 10 months in first- and second-use barrels. Drink now or hold.

Vinous Media 96

The 2023 Blanco de Gualtallary Limited Edition Susana Signature is 100% Torrontes. This is a bold, characterful white with intense aromas of mountain herbs such as carqueja, huacatay, oreganillo and pennyroyal, all layered atop a subtle floral background. The oak aging brings breadth and weight to the palate, adding chalky texture and richness. The finish delivers grip and persistence. This is such a distinctive interpretation of Torrontes.

Technical Details

Ageing

10 months in French oak barrels.

Food pairing

Fish, seafood and spicy, aromatic dishes such as those of the Asian cuisine.

Tasting notes

A complex, balanced Torrontes that stands out for the unique character imparted by the soils of Gualtallary. The plant's struggle to grow in the calcareous and poor soils of this terroir results in grapes of excellent quality, reflected in a wine with fruity aromas such as white peach, citrus, some spices, and white flowers. On the palate, it features vibrant acidity and notes of aging in French oak.

Vinification

After arriving to the winery, grapes were refrigerated at 6° C (42.8° F). Cluster selection, destemming and maceration in press with dry ice for 2 hours. Low-pressure pressing, budburst. Fermentation with wild yeasts in French oak barrels.
